CNOOC Uganda Limited, in partnership with Huawei Technologies (Uganda) Co. Limited, has kicked off a 10-day digital skills training programme designed to introduce basic computer and technology skills to pupils and community members in the Buhuka area of Kikuube District.
The initiative, delivered through a mobile training classroom known as the “Digital Truck,” aims to equip young learners and selected adults with foundational digital literacy to help them participate effectively in Uganda’s expanding digital economy.
At the launch event on Thursday, CNOOC Uganda President Liu Xiangdong said the programme will focus primarily on primary school pupils, many of whom are using computers for the first time, as well as interested community members. He noted that early exposure to technology prepares learners for future education, employment and economic opportunities.
Instructor Moses Sebuwufu explained that training begins with basic concepts, including identifying computer parts and learning how to switch on and use a computer, progressing to basic typing skills. Participants include students from Buhuka Primary School, Starlight Primary School and God is Able Primary School, along with local business people and other residents.
Sebuwufu said the programme is tailored to meet diverse community needs, with customised training for adults and business operators alongside classroom lessons for children. The sessions aim to enhance academic performance for students and improve livelihoods for adults by boosting practical digital skills.
The training launch was attended by key local leaders including the Local Council I Chairperson for Buhuka, Dismas Babihemaiso, school headteachers and pupils, all of whom welcomed the effort to broaden digital access in the community.
Officials said the partnership reinforces inclusive education and community development while supporting long-term engagement in Uganda’s digital transformation.
