The 8th edition of East Africa’s largest international music festival, Nyege Nyege, is set to return to Jinja City from November 9th to 12th, 2023. The festival will be proudly supported by Uganda Waragi as the official title sponsor and the Jinja City Council as a partner.

Encompassing around 50 acres that include the Source of the Nile, Jinja Showgrounds, Jinja Golf Course, and Source Gardens, this edition is being dubbed the ‘Nyege Wonderland’. This exciting announcement was made during a press conference held at Source Gardens in Jinja. The conference was addressed by Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL), Talent Africa Group, and the Jinja City Council. The partnership with Jinja City aims to benefit the city’s business community while enhancing the festival experience for attendees.

This year’s edition of the festival will introduce a new Hakuna Kulala stage, featuring a 96-hour music and performance marathon comprising live acts, DJs, dance, and theatre performances. The event will continue its tradition of showcasing the rich diversity of Ugandan traditional music, with traditional acts hailing from all corners of the country.

Robert Nsibirwa, the Marketing Manager, Spirits at Uganda Breweries Limited, highlighted the significance of Uganda Waragi as a brand that celebrates authentic Ugandan elements. He also shared that this year’s event would feature Smirnoff, adding an edge of flavor to Jinja.

Derek Debru, CEO of Uganda Waragi Nyege Nyege, expressed a commitment to improving this year’s experience based on the lessons learned from the previous edition. The festival aims to highlight community involvement, sparking creativity, dedication, and local economic growth.

UBL’s Nsibirwa emphasized the festival’s power to unite people in joy and artistic appreciation. He also highlighted the positive impact on Jinja City’s businesses, thanks to the festival’s revenue.

Talent Africa, Uganda’s leading event production company, will partner once again with Nyege Nyege. Aly Alibhai, CEO of Talent Africa Group, expressed pride in managing the event and promised an exceptional festival experience.

In addition to the main event, an opening ceremony featuring a grand parade through Jinja City is planned. Side events hosted by local venues will offer more opportunities for enjoyment. The festival will be complemented by the Nyege Nyege East African music conference from November 6th to 8th and a Nyege Nyege after-party in Kampala on November 18th.

The official festival lineup will be disclosed in September, featuring thrilling new acts from East Africa and renowned artists from Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, and Brazil. The festival will embrace a diverse range of African sounds, spanning amapiano, cruise beat, afrobeat, gengetone, dancehall, soukous, electronics, and more.
